Enjoy These Fantastic Cat Games To Play With Your Cat
Cats were born to hunt. Most cats who live indoors rarely get to indulge in hunting instincts, so they rely on us to entertain them. Sure, we know that our cats enjoy toys, but those can get old fast. If you want to have a more interactive playtime, here are some fun, safe games to play with your cat.
Who doesn’t love chasing bubbles? Just like kids, felines can be fascinated and mesmerized by bubbles floating through the air. Blow some bubbles and watch as your cat starts to pounce and catch them. It will quickly become one of the more entertaining games to play with your cat. You’ll love watching as your cat chases the trail of bubbles wafting around the house.
And if you’re worried about your cat getting a mouthful of soap, there are even exclusive catnip-scented bubble mixes available. The enticing scent and taste of catnip will give your cat a slight reward as they pop the bubbles! Most furballs will chase after the bubbles, but some cats prefer to watch and wait for them to drift closer. They will bat at them with a paw or corner them as they land on the floor.
This is one of the safest games to play with your cat. But make sure to avoid the eyes and never blow the bubbles directly into their face. Even lazy cats can’t resist playing with bubbles, as you can see in the video below.
We can’t talk about fun games to play with your cat without mentioning the infamous laser pointer. Flashing the laser beam on a wall will prompt your cat to run and leap to examine the strange dot. Most cats are quick to chase the light and will spend hours searching for it even after you’re done playing.
It’s all about the way you make the dot move. You want to mimic the actions of their prey by moving the laser light a little at a time. You’ll want to make it dart and pause or move slowly so that your cat feels they are gaining ground. This type of action will trigger your cat’s predatory sequence of stalking and pouncing. However, it’s incomplete without the final stage, the kill. But cats can’t catch a light.
The potential problem with using a laser pointer is that your cat can never win the game. To some cats, this doesn’t matter, but if your cat seems frustrated after playing, reward them with a treat. That will help give them a feeling of accomplishment and take their mind off the laser.
Be careful where you shine the beam because your cat is focused and won’t care if there’s something in the way. And under no circumstances should you ever shine the light directly into your cat’s eyes. Cats love the thrill of the chase, check out this video below of a cat playing with a laser.

Cat In The Box
Cat toys don’t have to come with a price tag. In fact, anything can be an inexpensive toy for your furry friend. One of the cheapest and most fun games to play with your cat involves nothing but a cardboard box. Instead of recycling those space-hoggers, cut a few holes on each side, and set it in front of your cat.
Now watch as your furball weaves in and out through the empty box for hours of endless pleasure. Don’t forget to make it interactive by scratching the sides while your cat is inside. They will instinctively pounce and strike out at any movement or sounds that they hear. Just be careful that you don’t get accidentally scratched in the process. But why stop with one box, when you can make a cat maze?
Place several cardboard boxes next to one another so your cat can tunnel through. Another fun thing to do is to sprinkle a few treats or catnip in some of the boxes. Your cat will display their hunting skills and determination in seeking the hidden treasure.
And when playtime is over, stack the boxes away in a corner. You can use a blanket to drape over the top to create the ultimate DIY kitty fort. Just have a look at this fantastic cat maze in the video below!
You probably think that this is a crazy idea. A year ago, I would have agreed with you. However, that’s no longer the case. Not since being awoken in the middle of the night by a loud noise coming from the hallway bathroom. To my surprise, I turned on the light, discovering both of my cats playing a game of ping-pong with the bathtub drain.
Needless to say, if you decide to try out this entertaining cat games, I obviously suggest using something other than the drain! Use a toy that bounces easily, like a small ping-pong ball. If you don’t have any, you could even turn it into a game of ice hockey by using ice cubes. Most cats will go crazy batting them back and forth for hours of enjoyment.
This game requires little involvement from you, but make sure always to remove soap, shampoo, and other products first. You don’t want to risk anything falling on your cat. Just keep in mind that once you’ve introduced bathtub ping-pong, there’s no going back! Your cat might get the urge to start their own private game in the middle of the night. So it’s a good idea to put the ball away before you go to bed.
As you can see in the video below, my cats aren’t the only felines who love this silly game.
The Shell Game
We’d never recommend you to gamble, but it’s a good bet that your cat will love playing this game. If you want to step away from the traditional games to play with your cat and give them more of a challenge, the shell game is a fantastic way to give your cat some mental stimulation. This little game is simple and requires three cups and one of your cat’s favorite toys or treats.
Place the toy, or treat underneath one of the three identical cups. Now, shuffle the cups around like a magician as many times as you wish. You’ll usually want to make sure that your cat watches as you shuffle, but it’s not required. Once you stop, wait and see if your cat can find the item by picking the correct cup. Some cats will catch on quicker than others, so don’t get discouraged if your cat doesn’t understand.
Remember that it’s just a game, and it’s meant to be fun. If your cat has a difficult time, try showing them what to do. Even if your cat still refuses to follow the rules, they’re spending precious time playing with you. Have a look at this smart kitty winning every round of the shell game in the video below.
